Small but important victory

dog1On July 1st I posted a request for my readers to sign a petition supporting the outlawing of chained dogs in Mississauga, Ontario. The proposed new bylaw was intended to protect helpless animals from being inhumanely subjected to freezing weather or summer heat that could endanger their lives. Well—it passed. And if you were one of those who added her name to the petition, we thank you. Here’s the official word.

Sep 20, 2014 — Thank you so much to all those who helped support dogs who were suffering needlessly outside. As a result of our combined voices the City of Mississauga has amended their by-law. Dogs can no longer be left chained outside for more than 4 hours in any 24 hour period and must not be left outside in any extreme weather alert. It is a small victory which hopefully helps our beloved companions. Everyone of your voices made a difference. Thank you.

And do not hesitate to call the authorities if you see any other instances of animal neglect or abuse. They can’t speak for themselves.
