Yay! We made it through and to another year!

The reason I never have and never will make New Year’s resolutions is that I know I will never stick to them so why create a useless source of stress in my life. Lose weight? Exercise more? Get more creative in the kitchen? Nah! Without a doubt, certain aspects of my lifestyle could use improvement but for the most part I’m living my best life ever. Retirement is our reward for all the crap years we’ve endured.

Those drunken New Year’s Eve parties were fun forty years ago, but we don’t miss them.

We no longer drink ourselves blind partying with rowdy friends on New Year’s Eve like we used to but every January first is still worth celebrating. Admittedly, most boomers have now reached the age when we prefer to spend the evening alone with our partner or a couple of close friends, and very little partying is involved. A nice bottle of wine accompanying a special dinner, and early to bed is our idea of a fun time these days.

In a world gone mad, there are still things worth celebrating. As boomers experience life in our sixties and seventies, we are reminded that it’s a bonus simply being here to enjoy whatever life offers. Our parents’ generation had to contend with The Depression and World War II. Every generation has its challenges and ours is no different. And, it’s very sobering to witness so many of our own generation croaking. Carpe diem.

Partying for us looks a little different these days and we couldn’t be happier.

Baby boomers enjoy better health and a more comfortable retirement than any other human beings in history. We can attribute this to healthier lifestyles, advances in medical science, better social services and support systems, and more financial security. Most of us enjoy a comfortable retirement without having to resort to eating dog food or sleeping under bridges.

We are fortunate to have heat, hydro, and water, and no one is dropping bombs on our homes. We are so blessed. Wishing all my BoomerBroadcast readers a happy, healthy, and bountiful 2023. So, toss those resolutions, celebrate the life we have, and wishing you a wonderful New Year!
