The Big Green Tent covers a lot of ground

Books about Russian history aren't everyone's cup of tea but after reading Tolstoy's Anna Karenina a few years ago, I've been fascinated with stories of everyday life in Russia at various times in history. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago is still on my bookshelf and one of these days I'm going to get beyond the first few dozen pages.
