Scary Halloween faces

When I tuned in to The Marilyn Denis Show yesterday, I was shocked and horrified when Suzanne Somers came on to be interviewed by Marilyn. I’ve always admired Suzanne Somers’ energy and resourcefulness but her face looked like she’d had a bad reaction to some kind of medication orSusanne somers had perhaps been stung by the world’s largest bumble bee. And her neck was even worse than mine even though we’re exactly the same age – 66. Swollen face and multiple neck folds – totally incompatible.

Why oh why do these women do this to themselves? Coincidently, I happened to see Patti Lovett-Reid on CTV yesterday too. Patti is a Certified Financial Planner, a frequent media commentator on Baby Boomer financial issues and a former senior executive with TD Bank Financial Group.

She’s also a beautiful woman who appears to have done something unnecessary to her upper lip. Economist Sherry Cooper, Executive Vice-President and Chief Economist of BMO Financial Group, is another beautiful woman who has messed with a good thing and the result is not a good thing.

I acknowledge that some people benefit greatly from these procedures. Somehow, they undergo fillers and Botox injections and still manage to look like a better version of themselves. Jane Fonda is an example of “good work”. Unfortunately, others do not fare so well.

Every actress on TV these days seems to be unable to move her upper lip or “furrow her brow”. Even Billy Crystal is looking weirdly altered. Why can’t they just go the way of Audrey Hepburn who was still beautiful with her 60-something face showing fine lines and wrinkles – and we could still see all of her beautiful smile not just her bottom teeth below a frozen upper lip.

It’s always heartening to see public figures age gracefully. Before long, the movie and TV industries are going to be unable to find people to play grandmothers, senior citizens or even mothers who don’t look from the neck up like they’re only 25 years old. Although it could provide employment opportunities for Boomer Broads like me who still have all the lines and wrinkles consistent with our age and experience. The over-use of these procedures is scary. It’s often unnecessary and frequently just plain wrong. The horror . . . . the horror.

Update: Holy crap. I’m not alone. Look what I just noticed on Yahoo site and check out the comments at the bottom: Suzanne Somers

You write great posts but you should rank your website higher in search engines.

Sorry to be so long responding to your comments – I’ve been away for a week. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your suggestions. Despite the fact I’ve been blogging for almost four years, I have not been able to find a community to share ideas and help. I’m not a coder and am self-taught on WordPress. It’s been an uphill learning experience and there’s so much I don’t know and would like to learn. Your referral to YouTube was very helpful and I’m now subscribing to Marcel. I would love to find someone or a group of people I… Read more »
